Indra Hughes is pleased to announce that he has been elected a
Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts
The Society was founded in 1754 by William Shipley, a painter and social activist. He brought together a group of individuals to propose a manifesto for the Society - "To embolden enterprise, enlarge science, refine arts, improve our manufactures and extend our commerce". The first meeting of the RSA was held in London on 10th April 1754. There are over 26,000 Fellows from all walks of life, but they have in common a record of achievement and an ability to make a difference. Past and present Fellows include Benjamin Franklin, Samuel Johnson, Michael Faraday, Alexander Graham Bell, Richard Attenborough, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Charles Dickens, Tom Stoppard, Robert Stephenson, Adam Smith, Karl Marx, Nelson Mandela, Marie Curie, Professor Stephen Hawking, Cherie Blair, Anita Roddick, and Ernest Rutherford.

Medelssohn's Elijah: Auckland Town Hall, 6 September

"Auckland will not experience the likes of this performance for some years…[Conductor Paul Mann] may not have had the 396 musicians that Mendelssohn conducted in 1846 but, in the grander moments, with the APO playing its heart out and Indra Hughes brewing up mighty sounds on the town hall organ, one could believe he did."

Indra Hughes is pleased to announce that he is the first person in New Zealand to be awarded the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts (University of Auckland). You can read more about Dr Hughes' thesis on Bach's The Art of Fugue on the Bach Studies page of this site.
